What do You think about The Warlock A Hangman's Daughter Tale (2000)?
This final installment of the Hangman Daughter series by Oliver Poetisch was my favorite yet. But this is probably due to reasons other than the literary merit alone. Last year I visited Andechs Monastery & Munich several times and can now appreciate the atmosphere around Bavaria better plus as a native English speaker living in Germany can understand and make allowances for translation idiosyncrasies that take the book out of historical context for moments. This novel was difficult to put down - maybe it's because I'm a romantic anda mother to boot who cheers for strong female heroines. I will admit that Magdalena incessant complaining about her husband not spending enough time with her while engaged in important life saving missions irritated me BUT as a history enthusiast I absolutely loved being a witness to exciting technological discoveries and science in this Renaissance period. This novel also resonated with me in a positive way as while there was a little tragedy involved at the end, strings were tired and the series came to a positive conclusion with hope and just enough "what if" to suggest a possible sequel.

I read the first 3 books in this series and loved them all. Then I did a little family history research and learned that my family immigrated from Bavaria in the 1800's. So when I read the 4th book I paid much more attention to the historical aspect of the book. Long story short I loved it! I was swept away to 1600's Bavaria with excellent descriptions of people, places, and events. Maybe one of my relatives went on a pilgrimage to see the 3 hosts or maybe they had a not so good run in with the hangman. I would have enjoyed this book with or withtout the family history connection but that made it just that much more special. I hope there is a fifth book to the series. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Another entertaining story in the Hangman's Daughter series. Plenty of dark humour and skulduggery.
