The White House Boys: An American Tragedy (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
Similiar to "A Child Called It". In fact, Dave Pelzer's recommendation on the cover caused me to pick it up & buy it. It's a quick, easy read but not easy on the heart! The irony is WWII had recently ended & the world was outraged at the concentration camps but this wasn't much better. My heart broke for poor little Roger but like Dave Pelzer, the horrendous childhood didn't totally destroy him. I've based my decision to give this 5 stars not on the writing itself but on many other factors. This was a very easy, fast read with a good flow. The story is fascinating, tragic, heartbreaking, and yet, in a sense, victorious as well. How horrifying that a place like this ever existed at all. Thank you, Sir, for having the courage to stand up and tell the world your story. I truly hope that you have experienced a healing in the telling of it.
