The Wicked And The Divine: The Faust Act (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

An incredibly interesting idea - love how all the different mythos tied into one. The characters were tangible, and I fell in love with each and every one of them, one panel at a time. On top of that, McKelvie's art is just absolutely stunning, and if it means I get to drool over his work, I'll read anything no matter what. Will definitely continue reading this series as it comes. Last book I read of the year. This is some weird book. It spends basically its entire pagecount setting up the premise and introducing the characters, so you don't really get a sense of any of the characters beyond broad sketches (save for the Kanye West analogue, where you know what his deal is because he is just Kanye West). There's barely any plot, the main mystery isn't solved, and everything feels very minor and undercooked. Way too many splash pages for how little is conveyed in them. There are some nice touches here and there (I like how the gods have to count in their magic powers), but it's just not very successful overall.
