The Woman I Was Born To Be: My Story (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

After reading this autobiography, I was inspired to make a comeback in my own musical career, which had been derailed for several years. No more excuses! Thanks Susan! When Susan Boyle sang, "I Dreamed a Dream" on TV's "Britains Got Talent",she captured our hearts, and her dream of becoming a professional singer came true. It didn't matter that she was simple, unfashionable, overweight and lived in a cottage alone with her cat. People had shamefully misjudged her and she became world famous, overnight! That is what I love about music. It has power to break down walls between people.I highly recommend this book to anyone, who wants to express their God given talents, to bless others and reach their full potential. Susan Boyle, a modest middle-aged Scottish woman, shot to world-wide fame when an audition of her singing “I Dreamed a Dream” (from the musical “Les Miserables”) for the tv show “Britain’s Got Talent” made her a You-Tube phenomenon. This is the story of her life through that first year after she became world-known. She tells of her family upbringing, the last of nine children – a surprise late in life baby, who her family would always worry about as being a little off, due to a difficult birth and time spent in the incubator after the emergency Caesarian birth. The doctors told her parents not to expect Susan to amount to too much as she may have suffered some slight brain damage during the birth. However, Susan is an intelligent woman with incredible gifts – most notably the gift of her incredible voice and her unshakable faith. She talks about how her life has changed since her audition video made her famous and how all through her life, music, faith and a sense of humor have gotten her through difficult times. (She’s much more open-minded and gracious than I would be while reflecting on past incidences of bullying!). This was a joy to read – particularly as I had one of her several CDs playing in the background. What a voice! What a woman. If you’re a fan of Susan’s music, I definitely recommend reading her book.
