There's A Bat In Bunk Five (2006) - Plot & Excerpts

Jaime WaldronDue 1/13/12D blockThere’s a bat in bunk five by Paula Danziger is a summer romance. Marcy a high spirted creative writer. A c.i.t.(counselor in training) at a camp run by Ms. Finney and old teacher. Creative arts camp music, drama, and writing. There are many other c.i.t. there and counselors to including the boys she is now crushing on. They leave to go on romantic dates with each other during there breaks and after everyone of there campers have go to bed. There is a thrill when you read the book. When they sneak around will they get caught and get kicked out of camp or will it be the best summer of there lives. This book is really good maybe not for younger kids though. I first read it in fifth grade and I could not put it down even got caught in class a few times for reading it while the teacher was teaching. I started reading it this year and I loved it still. I think I liked this book more because I’m older now and I can relate more to what the author is saying in this book. This author really relates to teens when she writes books she is talks about romances around are age. The main character wants to be a writer and I like writing so the book also has to relate to your interest. This book I would give a 5 because it doesn’t have long sentences that are boring. It’s fun up beat and to the point. This book is for teenagers who get what its being said to them and really find the book interesting. This is a summer romance that has lots of secrets. You wont be able to put the book down.

This was my favorite book in fourth or fifth grade. I read it at least six times. I came across this new edition recently and read it for nostalgia. It was just as good as it was back then. And I was surprised at how much of it I remembered, word for word, after 20-some years. Danziger does a great job of developing thoughtful characters in short books. I think books for older children and young adults from the 70s and early 80s are so much better than ones written today. Possibly because I spent so much of the 70s and early 80s reading them and fantasizing about being a young adult!
