Tiger Boys (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

I was not captivated by this story. It sounded like it would be a great book. A shifter who has grown up never knowing he was one, let alone that they actually exist. We had the bad villain, his brother. Then we have the 'hero', his (will-be) lover/tutor.It just dragged on and on, to me. It took me a few days to finish. I was interested in seeing how it ended. There were times I'd leave half-way through a paragraph to come back later. I was expecting more denial and angst. There wasn't much. To me, it felt like the story revolved around the 'sexual tension' more than the story behind it. Not that I don't mind sexual tension, but if you are going to have a plot and mystery, stick more to that. So, the story. Jules was placed in a foster family to keep him hidden until it was time. Sergei, who is the prince(and should be king) of the rival pride(of tigers) is sent to retrieve Jules and train him in his true being. Everyone needs Jules to defeat his power-crazed brother who is obsesses with immortality. His brother, with the help of someone close to Sergei,(you figure it out easily) steal young tigers and kills them. He sees Jules as a threat and wants to use Jules for his own needs. In the end, you find out the truth about the cryptic writing. I haven't read a shifter book in ages but I was drawn to Tiger Boys. What intrigued me, besides Sergei who is so gorgeous and engaging I fell for him big time, was this was that this the first shifter story where the shifter was completely unaware that shape shifters existed let alone that he was one. The concept of a human who has always been in human form having to learn how to shape shift was a character I could identify with, Jules had to come out twice once as gay and then as a tiger but it wasn't going to be easy. Sergei has a daunting task ahead of him when he agrees to attempt to teach shifting. He starts out with a little magic and then the best kind of magic happens Sergei falls in love. Is the feeling mutual? Will a man who has lived his whole young life as a human be able to shift let alone be able to become a king? Interesting questions and that is why you must read the book. A unique love story and adventure well told.
