Tough Shit: Life Advice From A Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I was planning to give a one star rating. The only reason for the second star is the last 5 minute of the audiobook and his daughter's beautiful letter. Listening to the book sometimes felt it was useless and going nowhere I never heard anyone swear this much and talk about intimate details on physical relationships. I didn't want to hear that and felt gross. The second best part I liked was the his incident as an overweight passenger being kicked out of a domestic plane. There was a message behind that story about standing up to your right and being heard. I want to wash my ears now! This is less of a book than a podcast in book form. That's not actually a criticism but it's very important to whether or not you'll like it. If you've listened to some of Kevin Smith's SModcasts and didn't like them, I'd say don't buy the book. It is extremely colloquial (a plus), funny, appears to be completely honest (a huge plus), and would have benefited from an editor saying "you've made that joke already; find a new way of making your point." As to the candor, I obviously don't know whether his film-making stories are true but saying bad things about powerful people with whom he has worked certainly doesn't sound like career advancement. If you're a fan, you've already heard most of these stories but it doesn't matter because you'll like the book. If you've enjoyed one or two of his movies but haven't ever heard him speak, I think you'll enjoy the book unless you dislike his brand of written humor. Also, as a bonus, you'll know whether you find his brand of bathroom humor too off-putting within the first 5 pages.

What do You think about Tough Shit: Life Advice From A Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good (2012)?

Rehashed stories, familiar to anyone who has seen Smith talk or who listens to his many podcasts.

As much as I love Kevin Smith's movies, I found the book a little too crass.
