This book appeals to my almost three year old grandson in a way that is surprising. It was renewed twice from our local library.. The second renewal was done when Orion, our grandson, went with Grandpa to return it. There were books everywhere, but Orion wanted his grandpa to read it to him again at the library. When Grandpa reads it, he also adds some drama and editing to the story. The monkeys manage to cleverly escape from a frightening predator. Orion loves it. He pretends to be one of the monkeys and Grandpa pretends he is the other. Sometimes I pretend to be the scary predator. I would give it five stars, but it is just too baffling to understand why he loves this book as much as say...Hush Little Digger or Car Wash. Two little monkeys are playing when something makes them hide in a tree. What are they hiding from?What I thought: This is a fun book. The language is great. My story time kids always notice rhyming books. If I don't mention that a book rhymes before I start reading, at least one kid will say, "This book rhymes!" Not knowing what the monkeys are hiding from adds suspense to the story. I know my kids will enjoy guessing. I like the illustrations. The monkeys look just right...playful! Very simple plot with repetition of the two monkeys name. Would work for the younger crowd.
