Unplanned: The Dramatic True Story Of A Former Planned Parenthood Leader's Eye-Opening Journey Across The Life Line (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Abby Johnson was in college when she saw the Planned Parenthood display at a Volunteer Opportunity fair, she was interested in helping people and this sounded like something she might want to do.She started volunteering at the Planned Parenthood in Bryan, Texas. Abby thought it odd that this place for helping girls and women was surrounded by a black iron fence. She soon learned it was to protect the patients, workers, volunteers, and the pro - lifers on the other side of the fence whoprayed, cried, shouted, and harassed the patients going into the clinics on the appointed abortion days. Abby thought she was helping girls and women who were there to get their abortions safely, they were not being butchered by some no name person or place. This was a trained medical facility it was safe, clean, and patients had counseling, gynecological services, and birth control education.Until one day when she was asked to assist in an abortion, she was asked to hold the ultrasound probe on a patients stomach as the doctor was performing the abortion. When Abby saw how the baby inside tried to turn and move away from the hook like instrument the doctor was using and when the suction machine was in place and ready, how the babies body was destroyed and sucked away, she could not believe her eyes. She thought she was pro - choice.Abby found herself sick and could not do her job anymore knowing what was going on.She turned to her pro - life friends at the Coalition for Life, they helped Abby through her grief, guilt, and forgiveness.Abby is now pro - life and is part of the Coalition for Life, she now finds a better and happier way to help women in pregnancy needs.I read this book and I was surprised how Abby was blinded by what was being done to the patients at Planned parenthood. I am so glad through the help of friends & God, she was able to see.I was horrified to read in detail the abortion she witnessed. I am happy to say I am pro - life! I am a mother to four children and I can not imagine going through an abortion.I had a doctor who read my ultrasound wrong when I was pregnant with my son, she got my period date and due date messed up, she called me into her office and told me my child would have Down syndrome, that I had a choice to abort. I did not believe her, my husband and I called the ultrasound technician and he helped us figure out what was wrong. I DID NOT HAVE AN ABORTION!!My son is healthy he is now 17. God is wonderful!!There are other resources and help out there, women do not need to kill their babies!!** I received this complimentary book from Tyndale for my honest review and opinions. ** I loved reading Abby Johnson's story. The pacing is just right, and because she has been on both sides of the abortion issue, there is so much grace woven into the story. I feel that supporters of both sides could read this without becoming too offended.I found this book to be such an encouragement for my relationship with God. It took years for prayers prayed for Abby and the clinic she worked at to be answered, but they were answered in much greater ways than any of the people uttering them could have realized or hoped for at the time. I was reminded that even Christians can be living drastically unbiblical lives and yet not realize it fully - and God works on them, even then. I was challenged to pray more fervently, and trust God more fully. And of course, I was encouraged to get more involved somehow in the pro-life "movement", and recognize that there is much more spiritual warfare going on in the world than I care to admit. I don't want to bury my head in the sand any longer.
