Voices Of The Pacific: Untold Stories From The Marine Heroes Of World War II (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
There is no kind of nonfiction more compelling than an oral history book.I love oral history because it is told completely by people who actually lived through the event, free of being bogged down by a modern author's take on things. This is as good an oral history book as any. World War II veterans tell of their experiences in the Pacific and their lives before, during, and after the war. I absolutely loved that it included pictures of the boys. An amazing book about World War II and the real people who experienced it. It will make you cry, no doubt, but it will also make you laugh unexpectedly. I don't write book reviews, but I felt compelled with this one. Many of us have fathers, grandfathers, etc who served in WWII and never spoke of their experience. Most WWII vets deflected questions about the war once they got home. Reading this book was really like sitting around the kitchen table with grandpa and all his war buddies, listening to them open up about all their experiences -- I felt like I was witnessing something very rare and precious.
