Voor De Poorten Van Het Duister (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
The problem with this set I think is that it relies too heavily on what happened in the previous series. Why bother giving a character an exciting new back story when you can simply say hey remember that thing that happened in this other book? Well here's a guy now. Do that enough and you rob us of half of the interesting things you may have had cause to write about if this had been an original book rather than the next in a long chain. On the whole I'm a fan of the line the story took but I think it could have been a little bit more exciting getting there, with a little less beating of dead equines. Another great read in the extended Riftwar cycle by Feist. This time around wraps up the Demonwar Saga, with another complicated set of plots by demons (yes, a surprise based on the series title) as well as various mortals. There's plots within plots, mysteries, and lots more epic level adventure by the most powerful magicians and heroes from multiple worlds. A good mix of character driven issues and world shaking events, the series ends with a strong hint of the next one being even more epic, and signs that the story of Pug and Midkemia might be getting closer to their conclusion.
What do You think about Voor De Poorten Van Het Duister (2010)?
exciting but a bit short (not even 300 pages)... clearly a setup for the Chaoswar series.
