Wait For Me! (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

Margaret lent me this - it's signed by the author. She has so much material it could not fail to be interesting so I enjoyed it. How can you not enjoy reading about Hitler, Evelyn Waugh, Kennedy ... But too often she says "This has been written about elsewhere", and returns to the merely domestic (domestic in her terms, not yours or mine). How the other half lives. Not half, of course. This woman's definition of everything that matters (line "hard up") is very far removed from the normal, and this does rather invalidate a lot of what she says, most particularly on politics. I skip read the more interesting bits but didn't digest it all, I'm afraid.I knew that I thought Decca was the best of the bunch. Confirmed. I have had a long-standing fascination with the Mitfords. When I saw a new autobiography- this one of the youngest sister Debo- I jumped at the opportunity to read more about this hilarious group of women. While all the antics and hilarity of their bizarre childhood were recounted at the beginning of this book, by the end it became simply a list of famous names and famous parties with all the droll bits edited out completely. Such a disappointment! If this is your first foray into the lives of the Mitford sisters, back away quickly and start somewhere else.
