Washed And Waiting: Reflections On Christian Faithfulness And Homosexuality (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

A definitive work of personal confession. There is much the individual Christian can draw from this; but wether gay or straight (mainly for those who struggle with same sex attraction) the lesson of fighting temptation is incredibly powerful. And, more importantly, the significance of redemption in the work of Christ, that gives hope to all, is deeply and truly present as a testimony that will undoubtedly transform lives through Wesley Hill's obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Washed and Waiting helped me understand the deep struggles of those with same sex attraction who believe that acting on those impulses is sinful. I appreciated the author's honesty and obvious desire to live a life pleasing to God. His perspective on love and marriage was especially thought provoking. When the Bible speaks of love it is often addressing relationships within the church. When Jesus speaks of the life to come he envisions a time when marriage will be no more. Hill's conclusion is that the deepest love is not to be found in marriage but in the church. I would recommend Washed and Waiting for everyone wanting a better understanding of what it is like to have same sex attraction and still be in fellowship with the evangelical community. My prayer is that we might all grow in our love for one another that church will be welcoming to all - regardless of their particular struggles.
