We Are Anonymous: Inside The Hacker World Of LulzSec, Anonymous, And The Global Cyber Insurgency (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Interesting read! It got me hooked after the first chapter. The past few years, I have taken a hiatus from reading and spent more time online and on my computer and this is prob. the first book I picked up this summer to try to get back into reading and I'm glad I did. This book showed an interesting perspective into the world of social engineering online and into the mysterious group anonymous. Even though according to Jake Davis, who has recently been recently released, one of his recent tweets claim that '"We Are Anonymous" by Parmy Olson(@parmy)is factually misleading, dishonestly quoted and does not reflect the true lives of its characters'. I do wonder if this is true or not, if so, hopefully himself or someone would share another perspective into 'Anonymous' in the near future. What is anonymous. Depending on who you ask, it may be:1. A mystic force of online people that can destroy the biggest companies just by merely willing it.2. A group of depressed kids that take enjoyment in godawful memes and revenge-hacking dumb people on Facebook.3. A small group of people that cloud who they are with a large amount of "community supporters" that don't do much beyond revenge-hacking dumb people on Facebook. The true answer is somewhere in the middle of that.Attempting to get an inside look on the culture of Anonymous can be a bit grueling if you aren't ready to wade past the ADHD nonsense and cryptic comedy that seems to surround everything. This book does a good job of attempting to explain the culture, the people who actually accomplished something within the culture, the motivation, and the offshoots of the group known as Anonymous. The stories here are fascinating.

This read like a fucking horror story. I'm glad my luck didn't run out like these guys.
