PROS-The description managed to get me to purchase it.CONS-The writing didn't allow me to continue through. -The book starts with a large degree of telling, telling, telling. Backstory, world-building, exposition, and there are STILL things that aren't explained! And that's AFTER I read the glossary.-There was one sentence in the first chapter that made me confused about the gender of the protagonist...OVERALL-It breaks my heart to write such a negative review. I can tell this is a very kind author who loves her work and her readers. However, the weak beginning prevented me from finishing this book. I wish this author the best. I don't enjoy giving negative reviews so let's start with the good points. I liked the premise for this book, the world the author created was novel and interesting and the major plot points kept the story moving forward. However, and unfortunately it is a big however, the whole book felt like it needed a thorough edit. I realise it is a self-published novel and I actually assumed that the book had been published unedited until I read the acknowledgments at the end. I lost count of the number of times 'were' and 'was' were used incorrectly and the misuse of commas resulted in me having to reread sentences over and over just to garner their meaning. In addition to the grammatical errors the sentences within a paragraph often didn't feel like they melded together particularly well which gave the book a kind of chop and change feel and made it very difficult to read.If you are reading this KaSonndra I apologise for how blunt I am being with my analysis but I am only writing this because I genuinely feel that this book has alot of potential. To me it felt like a first draft, not like a publishable novel. Go back and edit, edit, edit and give this story the glossy finish it deserves.
