This book was keeping me on pins and needles the whole time. I'm not comfortable with that emotion so it wasn't a peaceful read to me. It was a good who done it though. Well if you get the second book in the series that is. Thankfully it is out. It a book about a girl who see a murder and runs for her life for 10 years. Circumstances force her to return and face the music and try to put a murder away. She is in a race for both her life and confronting her doubts in God. I'd say if you are a fan of Terri Blackstock and Dee Henderson this book is right up you alley. One word: WHOA. Whew, glad to get that off my chest. Though Lynette Eason's books have been on the bookshelf for quite some time, I've been purposely avoiding them. Trying new authors . . . augh. It's just hard sometimes. However, after reading several historical novels, I really needed a good thriller. And can I just say- WHOA. She's been running for the past decade. Ever since the night of graduation, the night where silent but shrieking terror seemed to grab hold of not just her, but many others. However, she has to leave the past where it lies, right? She's a smokejumper now. Her work is her life. But when Alexia goes against Captain's orders, she's temporarily suspended. Deciding to finally face the past that haunts her, she heads home to South Carolina, where death comes knocking at her door. This was a story that never stopped moving. I felt like Colleen Coble and Irene Hannon got together to write a book. The plot is precisely genius. Brilliant. However, make sure you have the whole series in your possession before you begin, because it's one large story that bleeds into the three books. A new author to add to my favorites list; I'll definitely be reading the rest of this series and more of Eason's books. Disclaimer: I only have two complaints, and they're absolutely minor. Personally, I would've enjoyed a more deeper narrative of the characters' thought process, but it still ended up really well. I think the lack of that surely helped keep the racing pace of the story, but again--personally, I prefer a little more narration. As for the second one, I would have loved to have known more about Hunter. You learn a little bit, but as one of the main characters, I expected a little more. With Alexia, you find out who she is and why she feels a certain way. As for Hunter, I wasn't really sure what his history was or how he viewed life or his family. After less than twenty-four hours of not being certain whether I'd hyperventilate or not, I finished the book and was so glad I could breathe again. The story didn't end. This was just the beginning, and I am ready for the next two books!
