Where He Ends And I Begin (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
I had such high hopes for this one especially with all of the rave reviews. It lacked something for me. I never felt an emotional connection to the characters, and it told told, told, more than showed. I kept comparing it to my fave "childhood friends to lovers" book Locker room by Amy Lane. That one had so much beautiful emotional connection going on, it made you feel right along with the characters. This book told me how the characters felt, but I just didn't get it. Also the twice telling of the same scene got more than a bit old. So three stars, because I did finish it although I found myself skimming towards the end. This book is my favorite of the series even though I admit to skimming some of the sex scenes. Jake and Nate are truly two halves of one whole, and I enjoyed seeing them build their relationship. The alternating points of view were interesting, but it did feel a bit too repetitive every now and then. Since I liked the characters so much, it was easy for me to overlook those niggles. Each book in this series can stand on its own. Interestingly, they were published in non-chronological order. The events in book 3 take place before book 2, which takes place before book 1. Note: I really don't think jam would make good lube.
