The journey from Vietnam, Malaysia to America was fascinating and truly amazing, but the remainder of the story could have been told in fewer chapters. I was also disappointed that the American dream was a "greater treasure" to him (the latter half of the book has him constantly boasting about all their degrees and how hard they worked---just demonstrated idolatry to me) than the fact that they were given the greatest treasure of all, Jesus Christ through World Vision's ministry. Nevertheless, I appreciated the book and enjoyed reading it. This book is the incredible true story of one family’s desperate and harrowing escape from Communist Vietnam and the challenges they experienced as refugees in Arkansas. On a human level, this book is heart-wrenching. On a political level, I gained a greater understanding of the “boat people” and what could drive hundreds of thousands to risk everything for a better life. Check it out—you won’t be disappointed…
Loved this book. A true story of family, faith, courage, determination and so much more.
