Where The World Ends (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

For Will Cooper, of 'Where the World Ends' by Kade Boheme, coming to Gray's Harbor County feels like it's where the world ends. His world, as he knew it, before he came here, has definitely ended in conflict and confusion. He wants to make a new start, hoping to create a new world, a place to belong. Will is lost in more ways than one when he meets Colin Sharpe, Native American and counselor to the reservation youth and the only person who isn't hostile to him. In fact, Colin is quite attracted to Will and shows it, but very soon, obvious roadblocks appear and what seems like the end of the world for both of them may actually be a new beginning. Will is handsome, pleasant, and a decent guy. He is also emotionally wounded by his ex-lover and desperate to forget and move on. The last thing he needs is to become involved with someone, particularly when that person should be off limits, but the pull between him and Colin is too strong to ignore and his emotions soon get the best of him. Even though he's reluctant to enter into a secret relationship, he is lonely and wants to be with Colin. The last thing Will would ever do is deliberately hurt anyone, especially children. When Victor, Colin's father, tries to sue him, he's bewildered and angry even though Colin tries to reassure him that his father is always starting trouble like that and it will blow over. Will is caught up in a nightmare, trying to preserve his reputation, keep his job, and handle his feelings with Colin. Just when things seem straight, they all blow up again, leaving Will angry and broken-hearted. The only thing that saves him is his belief that Colin cares for him and would never deliberately hurt him.Colin is a great guy with a whole hornet's nest in his life, mainly, Victor, his father who is very prejudiced against white people and always bitter and angry, ready to start a fight with the littlest amount of provocation. Colin came back to the reservation after college because he wanted to give back to his people. He didn't want to live on the reservation; he wants to separate himself, be far enough away to have some privacy and escape, at least for a while, his work and the conflict of tribal politics. He tolerated his father but didn't always agree with him. Things were always rocky when they were together. As deeply ingrained as his loyalties are, his attraction and desire to Will is even stronger. Will's influence, love, and passion, causes a change in Colin that he doesn't exactly know how to handle, but one he knows he can't live without. This is my first story by Kade and I enjoyed it. Will and Colin are endearing, sexy, and passionate. Most of all I admired their strength of character and truly was pulling for them, even though their problems seemed unsurmountable. I loved Colin's mother. Her support for Colin and Will was amazing. Kade did an excellent job presenting his father, Victor as an unstable bigot, it felt a bit over the top, causing me to zone out every time he started ranting. The plot is an intriguing one and held my attention. I was quite invested in the story. I feel Kade has great potential as a writer and will only get better in time and I look forward to reading more of his work. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a love story between two strong, passionate men and a glimpse into life on a reservation. Thanks, Kade, for introducing Will and Colin to me. This was my first full length Kade Boehme book and I was not disappointed. The story of Will, the new white sheriff's deputy and Colin, a native american counselor who returned to his home after college to work with the children of the reservation, has a lot of emotion and some smoking hot sex scenes. The characters were well written. Will is lost, lonely and hurting after being betrayed by his long term lover and leaving his job and home. Colin is caught between wanting to help the youth of the reservation and dealing with his father's over the top bigotry toward anyone who is white. Both men try to deny their attraction, knowing that a relationship would be dangerous as tensions between the sheriff's department and the people of Colin's tribe are on the rise with Deputy Will their latest target. When one night of sex to get it out of their systems turns into something more, it is tempered by the fact that underneath what they feel for each other, both men know that it is likely only a matter of time before things will turn ugly.I enjoyed watching the relationship play out and really felt the tension underlying the story. There were some ugly parts, especially Colin's father and his blindness to what his attitude was doing to his family, but that only made me root more for the two men to pull it together.
