White Trash Zombie Apocalypse (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
White Trash Zombie Apocalypse. What can I say that the title doesn’t.The title reveals it is about white trash, zombies, and an apocalypse. Okay, “apocalypse” is a little much. The things the title leaves unsaid are the humor, the warmth, the goodness, and oh, did I mention the humor. What can I say. It is a just a little tasty brain nugget of a zombie tale. Was it ever a Man Booker potential nominee? Umm, no. But I probably wouldn’t have read it if it was.Basic synopsis. Continuation of the life of the undead that is Angel. Angel is a young woman who wandered down the wrong path and became, you got it, a zombie. Becoming a zombie was her salvation. A good person, Angel had been dealt a bad hand. Yes, for the most part it was a hand she dealt herself. But when given a new beginning, she took it. This book does build off a lot on the first two. Can you read this one without having read the first two? Sure. Will it make as much sense? No. The basic back story is given, but I do think you miss some of the nuances. There, I said it. “Nuances” in a zombie book. Really, as far as a synopsis, there is not much I can tell you. It is a book about zombies and zombie-on-zombie violence, human-on-zombie rudeness, and just a basic day in the life of Angel. Maybe a month or so in the life of Angel. This is, what, the third in this series? I started this series on a lark. Never read any zombie stuff. Never wanted to read any zombie stuff. But an Audible sale on the first of series sucked in me (oh, wait, that is vampires, isn’t it?) and I paid full credit for the next two and will likely finish out the series with Audible. Okay so I read the first 3 books all together, which I know, it was a mistake, but I had them on my Kindle and I was procrastinating and yeah, I just read the three of them in the short span of 48 hours and sue me if you don't like a three-for-one review because that's right, I'm copying and pasting this review onto the other two books. WHATEVER.Now, onto the books, with the first one I had a little trouble liking our heroine here, not because she was badly written or anything like that, but for the fact that she was so self-depreciating, which bothered me for some time, even on book two this was something that rubbed me the wrong way... still, by the time I had gotten to book two, I had kind of gotten used to it and had finally understood completely how Angel's head worked and how everything in her past affected how she acted now... I mean, is it going a bit too far to say I understood where she was coming from? I get she's a fictional character, but for fuck's sake, she seemed sooo real some times it was eerie.By the time I got to book three it was probably very late on day number 2 of procrastinating away and I didn't give a fuck, so I was really getting into reading these books... and now Angel seemed like my BFF, Marcus the boyfriend I wish I had and Pietro the uncle I'd hate/love to have...So, the story is intricate and weird and every book is more crazy than the last, but also, every book delves more profoundly into every character's motives and personality and everything is getting more detailed and I loved it... Now, don't take me wrong, this book is not all perfect and obviously there were some times I either wanted to shake Angel or kick Marcus in the balls, but, as I said before, they're fictional characters so I couldn't do that and I was left with having to read faster so I got to the point SOMEONE on the freaking book would do that for me...This series is awesome and if you don't love it already just because of the name of the books or the cover art or the fact it is about ZOMBIES!! (two exclamation marks! haha, that's a joke you will get once you read book three, so get on reading), then I don't know what will make you love them, maybe reading them? IDK, dude, but there's no way you won't love these books... (Who is the "YOU" I'm talking to I don't even know, but whatever, you whoever is reading this, if anyone is, really, go read these awesome books)AAAAAAAAAAAAAALSO, before I end this trainwreck of a review, I have to say Phillip is a misunderstood little angel and my favorite character ever even if he's screwed up. (WHICH IS NOT A SPOILER, OKAY?!)
