Wide Awake And Dreaming: A Memoir (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I was diagnosed with narcolepsy/cataplexy this last January - - - and I felt so lost to know how to grasp what this was going to mean in my life.I was given the title of this book to read to learn more about my new normal from a person who is living life as a PWN/C.This is one of the books that has literally changed my life. I am so thankful to have learned about it at a time when I was really needing a friend to come alongside me to tell me how to live (and still achieve my dreams) as a PWN/C!I have been able to get to know Julie and have gained HOPE after reading of her experiences - - - I am also happy to say that I have made a friend and gained a tireless advocate for living with N/C in Julie the person, not just Julie the authoress. All because of a book. This book is not perfect. It has its flaws, mostly with grammar and spelling. However, that did not impede on the story. I have narcolepsy myself, without cataplexy. I found that this book was not only entertaining, but her descriptions were so real. The way you fall asleep at your desk in class, for instance. And if that's the case, I now know what it's like having cataplexy, as I never had any. Everyone who loves someone with narcolepsy, should read this book. It's very informative and much more in depth than anything on the Internet.

Julie is truly inspiring and describes her experience with Narcolepsy very well.

Ultimately I was disappointed as the book bogged down around the halfway mark.

An engaging, intriguing read about a disease I knew little about.
