I was looking forward to this book coming out, having read some of Fielding's novels and enjoying most of them. With that said, this book was clearly not up to her usual standards. The characters were flat, and there was no protagonist to root for because these characters in this book were flawed to the point of not even being able to relate to them and their poor life choices. The setting (Miami) didn't really flow with the plot, either, for one reason or another. It was a dark storyline set in Miami. It just didn't work.I ended up getting through the book skimming a lot of pages, especially the ones focusing on the most despicable character, Tom, and was even less impressed with the ending. I could see where Fielding thought this plot had potential and the ending did have a little surprise (not worth much), but the events leading up to this were silly, unbelievable and anti-climatic, which led to a disappointing story overall. Although I do enjoy Joy Fieldings books, I find that her newest books are not of the same quality as her earlier books which are real thrillers. Given that, this book did hold my attention and keep me reading to find out what was going to happen. I had figured out the twist at the end so reading it just verified what I was thinking. Three friends were sitting in a bar and began betting that they would or wouldn't do certain things. A nice looking lady entered the bar and sat down at a table and ordered a pomegranate martini. Soon they are betting $100 on which of them would be able to get invovled with her first. Jeff has charmed the ladies all his life and he is sure that this will be an easy bet for him to win. But perhaps Suzy the mystery lady is more than meets the eye and has a few surprises of her own for them.
What do You think about Wild Zone, The (2010)?
It's so surprising me at the end. I like Joy Fielding style of telling the story!
