He had changed into a maroon polo and softly worn jeans and his hair still looked a little damp from the shower. The instant he saw me, he was on his feet, a big smile spreading over his face.
    “Hi!” he said. “You look nice.”
    I returned his smile and thanked him for the compliment as my eyes fell on the rather large stack of books sitting on the bench. “Wow,” I said. “Do we need a wheelbarrow for those?”
    Chase laughed. “No, I think I can manage.”
    “Let me take some of them,” I offered, holding out my hands.
    “You sure?” he said, reaching for the books.
    Was I sure? Of course I was sure. I wanted to know what he was reading.
    “Absolutely,” I said. “I’ll consider it pre-pasta exercise.”
    Chase selected the lighter volumes and handed them to me, holding the heftier books with both hands as we started walking toward the library.
