4.5 StarsFirstly let me start by saying I genuinely wasn't expecting this book to be as good as it was. I was hooked from the moment that Katie caught her Fiance in a suspicious situation with another woman and so she decides to pay a visit to a sex club in order to try and forget, but her annonymity must remain due to the fact that she runs the family's charity, to her parents distaste, and her reputation must remain intact. And so it comes about, with a room shrouded in darkness, she has one night of incredible, mind blowing sex with a mysterious stranger. She assumes that the night is a one-off and because she could not see this man she doesn't ever expect to meet him again, but she can't seem to get him out of her mind. Although we do discover who the stranger is, fairly early on in the story, I don't feel I should dwell on him too much. I think the mysteriousness is all part of the reason I loved this book in the first place.Katie comes from a very wealthy, pompous family, who feel that money and reputation is more important than love. I particularly disliked her mother and the fact that she insists that Katie should continue with the wedding, shows that she definitely doesn't have any maternal instincts towards her daughter. There are several murders throughout the story and if I'm honest, I though I had it all worked out......Well I didn't.I can't do this review without mentioning the sex scenes. There wasn't a great deal of them, but it is my opinion that they were incredibly well written and I strongly advise anyone reading not to read in public, or at the very least make sure the air conditioning is turned down low.I did notice a couple of minor editing errors. The book is also written in a first person point of view, switching very well between Katie's and the mystery man, however I did notice, more towards the end of the book, that the point of view changed to third person ('He' instead of 'I', 'His' instead of 'my' etc). I'm wondering if the book was originally written that way and these parts were missed in the editing process, but it really didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the story. All in all, this was a very enjoyable read. Wrapped In Shadows by Lisa Eugene3.5 StarsI liked this book, it kept my interest but I think that was due to all the drama and unrealistic situations that the characters found themselves in… to me anyway.Katie is from a very uptight, rich and snooty family and is expected to act a certain way. Yes, she is from one of “those” families. She is engaged to Josh. Josh the assh*le, as I like to refer to him…actually what I wanted to say probably wouldn’t get published so lets just go with assh*le. He is mean, overbearing, violent and a big fat liar! So, where to begin…I’ll try to give you the cliff notes version because honestly, so much happens I felt like I was on a rollercoaster...Katie walks in on Josh and his ex and thinks the worst and decides she may not want to get married, she tries to leave and he gets violent but she does leave. After running to her friends, they decide she needs a night out and she suggests they take her to a club they frequent and she has never been too. Needless to say they are shocked but agree to. Why are they shocked, because she actually wants to go to a sex club. She doesn’t want to indulge in ice cream and sappy 90’s movies or go get some retail therapy or even go get a new hairdo to drown her sorrows like a normal chick, no she wants to go get some booty at a sex club???? Okayyyyy then…this didn’t make sense to me but ok, it held my interest and I was curious. So, they go to the club and long story short she gets put into a dark room anxiously awaiting..Let’s me introduce you to Luke…father of a little girl, owner of his own, very successful company and hot, hot, hot. He is in a rut and his friends who he also works with, decide he should go out and explore his wild side and visit…drum roll…a sex club. Again a very unlikely candidate to visit one but hey, like I said I kept reading cuz I was curious.I’m sure you can guess but Luke is Katie’s mystery man and they have mind blowing, once in a lifetime, soul mate melding sex, in a sex club, in the dark. Of course they do!!! And all they had to do was go to a sex club to find each other!! Easy peasey right? UGH!! Skip ahead a few days and neither can forget about each other and the wonderful night, blah, blah, blah and Katie can’t forget his smell and how he made her feel loved…While visiting Josh at work, she smells “him” when she walks by a group of men…Oh no, can it be? Can the love of her life that she banged in a sex club actually be right here? And at her fiancés place of work? What are the chances? LOL…So eventually they realize who each other is and they can’t stay away from each other…all the while she is telling her parents and her fiancé she cant marry him…Until something else happens..The night they both had visited the club, someone was murdered and Luke is getting blamed. Will Katie stand up and tell the police she is his alibi and there is no way he did it because he was banging her all night and ruin her and her families reputation or will she keep quiet. Will her brooding fiancé let her go easily? Will Luke be sent to jail for the murder…Let’s just say all the loose ends get tied up and everyone gets exactly what they deserve. If this book had more of a smooth flow to it and the idea was executed a little better it could have been a really great book but Katie annoyed the ever living crap out of me and there was just too much going on at once and the plot was a little un-believable.
What do You think about Wrapped In Shadows (2000)?
Meh, skimmed most of it. It had potential but did not deliver.
