In the stillness, he heard footsteps coming closer, but moving in a limping, shuffling manner. He called out, “Hello?”The feet shuffled closer.“I’m Major Tycho Xenakis. Who’s there?”The feet shuffled closer still.“Damn this.” Tycho drew his revolver and strode to the mouth of the alleyway. “Who’s there? Answer or I’ll shoot!”The feet shuffled closer and a figure loomed out of the darkness into the pale blue starlight.
