Nothing spectacular about this book. It was a good follow-on to the previous novel, but lacked some of the heart that showed in the first. Also, I disagreed with the choice of making one of the Brilliants into something more super-natural, rather than an extension-of-natural as all other Brilliants are.The second issue is one common to second books. Often times when a writer has success with his first novel, he realizes he wants to make a string in a series. This, in-and-of-itself, is not necessarily a problem. What is an issue is when they make the second novel a transition book. The events that happened are good, but unlike the first novel, this book cannot stand on its own. Major climax events aren't really climatic, because they feed into what is happening in the next book. A Better World suffers from this. The book is a page-turner, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. But the methodology is getting old. Brilliants out-think each other - or get out-thunk; escapes & chasing ensue, and crises are averted, or not. The "science fiction" aspect is nil. This is now merely an action book. Bummer.I'll read the next book because I'm the type who can't quit mid-story. Authors love people like me.But I sure wish this had been a two-book effort. It's growing tiring.
What do You think about A Better World (2014)?
Keeps the action moving - my main complaint is that I don't know when the 3rd book is coming out!
