A Creed Country Christmas (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
Another of the Miller revelations about how the Creed family grew, this story begins in 1910 when Juliana Mitchell, a teacher of a school for Indians, loses her job and the school, and hasn't a place to go when her older brother refuses to give her even a portion of her inheritance. Lincoln Creed, widowed father of irrepressible Gracie, takes them home to his ranch to get them out of the snow and cold, and there begins an unlikely, but inevitable, attraction between them.Given the times, when Gracie finds her in Lincoln's bed, though they have only slept there, not SLEPT there, the only way to make things right is for Juliana to accept Lincoln's previous offer to marry her, and thus solve his problem of finding a governess or a housekeeper of, even a wife. But will Lincoln protect her four Indian charges from the Indian Affairs representative who intends to take them back? And over Christmas, too? I think I read this before, but still enjoyable. Juliana is out of a job, home and hope because she's keeping 4 indian children with her, instead of turning them over to an institution. Widower Lincoln Creed is desperate for a governess, and failing that, a mother for his precocious daughter Gracie. He meets Juliana at the general store, and taking in her desperate situation, takes them home. When Gracie finds she's a school teacher, she's in heaven. And before long sparks are flying between Lincoln and Juliana, and Gracie gets her other wish - instant brothers and sisters.
