Jamie Campbell is a man caught between two worlds. He is a highlander by birth, but he is his cousin's (the King) enforcer bringing outlaw highlanders to justice. So he is caught between the scots and the english.When he goes to investigate clan Lamont, who is supposedly harboring an outlaw, he falls in love with Caitrina, the cheiftain's daughter. She forces him to see that the law isn't so black and white and he has to make a choice about love and duty.Both Jamie and Caitrina were stubborn and loyal, it worked in their favor is certain circumstances, and against them in others. They had to work hard to put their love first against the expectations of the clan. It wasn't easy and they made a lot of mistakes, but they were fun to follow. It was entertaining and I look forward to book 2 I do not think I have ever read a book where I did not want the main characters to get together. Well, I found one.... I was not happy that they ended up together. I did not like that Jamie was blindly following some warped sense of duty and Cat for pretty much just agreeing to be with Jamie because it felt good. While, I normally would have loved the Romance found in the book the characters just made it hard for me to enjoy. I did like the end but I just found myself shaking my head because while Jamie did not take direct part in the death of her family he still did not seem to feel bad about what his brother did. He just said that it was justice.... So over all, I think the author was going for a true love can conquer all thing but I just did not believe it with these characters.
