The Arrow (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the first book of Ms. McCarty’s that I have read. I think it will be the last.My biggest problem with the book is that nothing happens. The plot is nonexistent. For the first 300 pages or so we are in the heads of the hero and heroine. That is not a good place to be. They spend those 300 pages in varying degrees of sexual yearning. Two people fantasizing about having sex with the other, and ending up in various states of arousal from those fantasies, is not a plot. It’s almost as if no one told Ms. McCarty that every story must have conflict. I was surprised by this after reading that the author has written and published 15 books in the past 9 years! My mind boggled a little bit at that output but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. After reading The Arrow I think that if I were to change the names and tweak the details a bit I have a very good idea of how the other 14 would read. There are a few establishing incidents at the beginning to set the stage but it’s not until the last 75 pages of the 396 pages that anything really happens. There are hints of a mystery concerning the heroine’s family ties but even that is made obvious before the eventual climax so there’s really not much suspense there. Then there’s the description of the hero as “the handsomest man in Scotland”. It made me think of Snow White and her mirror. The hero’s response to this label is just clichéd, with nothing interesting about it to make me want to get to know him better.I really like reading romances but I need more than this book has to offer. So I cannot recommend that anyone read The Arrow. **I received a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased and honest review**Review:5 starsGeneral: I LOVED this world. I was sucked into the world in the very first chapter and could not get enough of it. The world building was absolutely fantastic and every character encountered grabbed and demanded my attention. The characters smoldered in their passionate relationship and Gregor was a highlander to drool after. The plot itself was well constructed and filled with action, lust and a wonderful grasp on the historical elements laced throughout it. I found the accounts of The Arrow to be wonderful. I loved every moment spent with Gregor and can happily say he's one of my favorites. He was well paired with Cate and I loved that the central element to the story was their union and the mystery that surrounded it.Characters: Cate- Cate is the traditional Scottish heroine. She's beautiful, feisty and a warrior in her own right. She had such a big heart and was so naive in some instances it contradicted her intelligence, but worked for a woman who grew up with the blinders she had on. I loved her determination and her spunk.Gregor- Gregor was downright fantastic. Give me a brooding scottish Alpha male any day, but make him into a light hearted playboy AND an alpha and a warrior - well you've got my heart on a silver platter.

What do You think about The Arrow (2014)?

Did not enjoy this one. The heroine was a brat of modern standards! Skimmed to the last chapter.
