A Matter Of Fate (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

(3.5)The story unfolded nicely and smoothly, keeping interest with the right amount of intrigue, dialogue, and interesting characters. Nothing is dragged out for longer than necessary. Lots of tears, apologies, and quite some melodrama from our protagonist, Chloe. Cora was hilariously fierce. Karl was hilariously overprotective. There were a lot of things I wanted to know or just didn't understand, like, how you actually get to Annar, why it took months for Chloe to finally interact with the boy she was hopelessly and desperately in love with even after coming in contact with his brother, or why they'd even risk killing the soon-to-be only almighty Creator by 70% just for her to Ascend early? An interesting world. Loved that the chapters weren't too long. Couldn't help getting caught up in the brother dilemma. Ending leaves no loose threads. 2 stars seems harsh. I'm tempted to add another; however, I'm trying to be true to the stars. (Insert fist pump here.) It WAS OK. There were elements that were good and there were a few (*FEW) that were a little better than good - but those were fleeting. Let me say that I don't hate love triangles. If done right, I LOVE love triangles. They're titillating. (Ha! I just made you say titillating in your head. Ew.) BUT - The triangle in this story was a little much. And by little, I mean hideously obese. She's with Jonah in dreamland for years and falls in love. Jonah and Kellan(his twin) magically appear at her school. She knows now that Jonah is real, but his twin is so hot that she just can't help herself. Lots of excuses are halfheartedly made as to why she hasn't even attempted to talk to Jonah, the love of her dream life. Instead she's just going to stick her tongue a little further down Kellans throat ... even though she knows Jonah can see it and is hurt by it. After who knows how long she cheats on Kellan (with Jonah) and then cheats on Jonah again (with Kellan ... Are you getting the picture yet?) - then she cheats on Kellan one more time for good measure - then on Jonah again (You know, cuz they're twins and everything should be even.) Thank goodness there's an explanation for her infidelity. - She's sucked into each twin's chiseled, hawt-surfer-boy orbit by an obscure, unavoidable, fated connection that she shares with each one - even though this "connection" is supposed to be with JUST JONAH. Why then is she so drawn to Kellan you ask? Because, technically, Jonah and Kellan used to be one being before their stupid, fat egg split in two. DUH. Thank goodness for that sound reasoning because for a while there I really thought she was just a big, fat, cheating whore.I won't even go into the rest except to say that she's a creator and destroyer of worlds which could have been a hugely fun thing to read about. Unfortunately that part is mostly skimmed over until the end when she finally uses her power ... kind of ...On a positive note, I wanted (albeit reluctantly)to know how it was going to end. This is huge. Good job Miss Lyons! (I'm being sincere here). It's hard to keep an irritated reader interested enough to finish - and you accomplished that. Bravo. However, this is where my ride ends. After reading spoiler reviews of the next 3(?) books I've decided to get off this crazy train.

What do You think about A Matter Of Fate (2000)?

A tad slow in the beginning, but I really enjoyed the book. I'll be reading the next book for sure.

Swooning! So good. An actual love triangle I am conflicted over along with the protagonist.

Best love triangle involving hot twin guys! Still can't decide who I fell for more!
