I started to read this book and was enjoying it so much I had to stop and start over by reading it out loud to my two teenage sons. We enjoyed it very much! There is a lot of "pirate" language throughout, but the author includes a glossary in the back to help young readers. This is a wonderful opportunity to teach about the parts of a ship and pirate life. I enjoyed how everything was kept clean and non-violent since Pirates can tend to go the other way. This book made pirates into a cheerful bunch. One pirate even sleeps with a teddy bear. The illustrations are very colorful and busy. Which means the book can be looked at over and over and new things will be seen each time.Would I recommend this book? YES! I think all ages could enjoy this book. This book is so much fun! It is a must read with a pirate accent of course and it is sure to put a smile on both the children and adults faces. This story is about the pirates aboard their ship awaiting their version of santa claus to come with all of their gifts. They had decorated their ship and kept a close eye out waiting for him to come. Sir Peg was his name and he brought all the gifts for the pirate children and a special gift for one little boy, a map to a treasure chest. This is a fun and clever book, sure to please and put a fun twist on any Christmas Eve night.
Very good take on "night before christmas" and can use in holiday storytime b/c no mention of santa
