Ivan was standing in the doorway, waiting, with the dogs at his feet. As soon as they saw me, they came racing over, desperate to say hello, and have some fuss. I petted them, before glancing up at Ivan. He was wearing just shorts, and was barefoot. He smiled tentatively at me. "Hi baby. Sorry about that voicemail I left.
