Alien In The Family (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Count me among the people who love the slapstick silliness of Kitty Katt's life. The creative world is great, but the execution of the storyline in book three is... okay. It wasn't quite the doubled over laughing, flying through the pages great that I enjoyed in books 1 & 2. Why? Partly because the main suspense plot bobbles the consistency and clarity issues. The reader needs to understand the threat, which can be ratcheted up by plot twists, without twisting indecisively about why the big ship is invading earth, who's on it, and how it relates to the advance landing party of extraterrestrials. Um, why did they band together and set out for earth? It's pretty darned confusing. The pacing also goes kablooey with a good 20% of the book describing wedding events that are pretty much standard issue wedding hoopla, without an insidious end-of-the-world plot running at the same time. I like Kitty a lot, but not enough to ooh and ahh over her decision making process about dresses, rings, flowers, veils. The ceremony itself left me with a lot of "huh?" Tidbits of relevance to future world building glimmer in a couple of places, but a tighter storyline could have slimmed down the wedding highlight reel to a few chapters, rather than 20% of the book. The wedding details might be a nice e-novella for hardcore fans, if this were releasing in the kindle era, but heigh ho. The wedding photographer uses... film. The paperback was obviously published a couple years shy of a digitized Earth. So, I'm still a fan of the cheesy A-C world, in all its Velveeta goodness. There's a long list of books ahead in the series beyond book 3. We'll probably have more ups and downs in terms of the story arc of specific novels, judging by other reviews... I'm still on board. Good book, but holy cow, enough with the sex already. I seriously hope that once they have their kid that the sex scenes will slow down. a lot. I like the action and adventure and Tito is a good new addition to the crew, but you're seriously telling me that they are based in the south west and don't already have people in the group who speak Spanish? Not buying some of it, but it's still a fun romp in the stars and still has an excellent snark factor and music list. God also got the nod in the book, so props to that. Just wish the sex scenes weren't so numerous. Good read, but the plot is so good, it's a shame the sex is there at all. Makes it easier to fly through it though.
