As #2 in a series where I really liked #1, this book was a great disappointment. Much of the description was boring and filled with unnecessary detail. It just stopped, having had little real conflict and with even less resolution. It literally ended with "To be continued." Kids, who had been pretty smart in #1, made errors and failed to anticipate problems. It could have benefitted from an editor who understands "arrive late and leave early." If I try the next one, I don't expect to do more than read the first and last chapters. I hope my disappointment with this one is showing through... Mark Frost writes for television. This is his greatest strength, but also his biggest weakness. Alliance suffered a bit more compared to the first in this regard. Frost wrote a book that would have made a great television production, but fell flat as a written project. Having a visual perspective makes this an enjoyable read, but there was a lot of unnecessary detail that would have made only a movie/TV show more interesting and needed to be cut from the book entirely, despite the shortness of this installment. Alliance felt more like filler material for a greater chunk of the storyline, and there were a few holes in the plot, but I have hopes that this means the next book will fill in all the little gaps.
What do You think about Alliance (2014)?
It started off extremely slow, and only became interesting in the last 50 or so pages.
