My 6yo chose this one at the library, and had at least paged through before I started reading it at night as she knew where all the pictures were. She says she liked the the message about helping animals and now wants to learn to surf.My 4yo got bored as there aren't enough pictures compared to all the words. But the pictures that are there are very lovely with lots of detail. She enjoyed the parts about the treats and shave ice. I now want to visit Hawaii again, lounge in the sun and eat treats. I was looking forward to the Kanani books because Lisa Yee's previous AG book (Ivy's) was really good, and in the meantime I'd poked around her blog and found her to be awesome. She does not disappoint. Aloha Kanani is a good book, even if you are well outside the target audience. Kanani herself is very sweet character. She's opinionated and thoughtful and ultimately tries to do the right thing with mixed results. While adult readers (or anyone who's come across a similar storyline) will know where things are headed, the ride is more than worth it. Beware though, if you're AG inclined. You might just find yourself wanting more.
I thought that it could be a little better at getting to the point, but other then that it was good.
