Amulet, Vol. 5: Prince Of The Elves (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
In terms of story progression and character backstories, this was a major improvement over the previous two disappointing installments. I'm confused, though, by the apparent lack of interest in ensuring the storyline as a whole is consistent. Perhaps it's more apparent because I'm reading these in a row and fairly quickly, or perhaps the author cares more about introducing as many new characters as possible in each volume rather than ensuring the story faithfully follows what came before. With that said, I am interested in seeing what happens with some of the newer characters. I'm still woefully uninterested in Emily, but her backbone is beginning to make a bit more of an appearance, so I suppose that's a good sign. The best parts of the story take place when the focus swings back to the robots; I hope they take a more prominent role in later volumes, although I can't help doubting that will be the case. Speaking of the pirating of Star Wars material: there are panels in this volume that look EXACTLY like bits of Return of the Jedi (particularly the entrance to the shield generator base). I realize it's probably meant as a subtle tribute, but it's a little too blatant. - Since there was a big gap between reading the last book and this, I had forgotten a few things, but it came back. Sadly the momentum from all the excitement wore off.- The scenery and architecture are STUNNING! I LOVE the art in this book.- Not a lot happened to progress the story. I just have more questions.- I loved the pages and panels that didn't have dialogue. It was a feast for the eyes, and the story and emotions came across brilliantly.- There is a lot to wrap up still, and there is only one more volume left. I hope it ends well. I don't like loose ends.
What do You think about Amulet, Vol. 5: Prince Of The Elves (2012)?
I really enjoyed reading it but I have to admit you have a point with the lack of consistency the back stories were very confusing and sometimes even contradictory when followed.
