3- 3.5 starsYet another mystery that does not revolve around a murder, or require it to be a mystery; but it could be argued that a suicide-murder from the past is the genesis for the ensuing mystery.I won't discuss the contents as numerous others have already done so.I wasn't as involved with this one as with the previous installments - nonetheless it still made for addictive reading & I immediately started on the next one in the series without digesting this one!Once again Montalbano falls for a young woman, but what I enjoyed with this affair was that it somewhat explored the significance of youth to a man whose concern with ageing takes centrestage in his life. Combine that with the idealised Angelica of Montalbano's youth and it seems that Montalbano escapes into heady adolescence, ignores his current obligations and mires himself in nostalgia & Orlando Furioso. The book almost echoes the melodrama of the poem and as such the emotional state of Montalbano becomes his own battleground. An enjoyable read and now back to 'The Treasure Hunt'.
What do You think about Angelica's Smile (2010)?
