Aquaman, Vol. 2: The Others (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Aquaman volume 2 had a great storyline and a lot of fast paced action! I loved seeing the origin of Aquaman's trident as well as Black Manta being the main villain in this volume. I could only give this book four stars though because throughout the entire course of the story, Aquaman is super determined to kill Black Manta after the murders of his friends and multiple other pains he has caused him in the past. In fact, much of the story is based around Aquaman's quest to exact revenge on Black Manta. However, he decides to let him live in the end? This totally went off course from what the whole story was building up to and gives no real reason as to why Aquaman suddenly won't kill him. I just found this misleading and disappointing to bring this story to a close with. Hopefully, we will eventually see Aquaman punish Black Manta for his crimes. Man, the Others are a really cool team. I look forward to learning more about them via the Internet. I was always more Marvel when it came to superheroes, and the bulk of my DC came from Vertigo. I think it's cool how even in the revamps, you can draw from all the past stories to have an already established 'history' for the character in the new books. It makes for good stories like this one.Like I said in by volume 1 'review', I believe in the possibility of Atlantis as a good and was always fascinated by the idea of it. Even though this Atlantis is totally created for the comics, it was cool to get a little into the history and the artifacts of the dead king. This one went for the heart strings a little. There were a number of sad moments. This deviated a little from the first volume that was more focused on humor and action. This book still had the humor and action so it was a richer read in my opinion. It just offered a lot more than the previous, which was also a really good superhero book. Can't wait for volume 3.
