Atlantis. Die Seele Des Kriegers (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I really was hoping to be blown away by Alexios' storyline, especially given it's setting in St. Augustine - my stomping grounds. Unfortunately, Alexios and Grace just didn't grab my attention nearly as much as I would've liked. When you read a series, you expect a certain amount of repetition - a formula the author has for what works - but in this case I felt there was a great deal of missed juicy storyline that could've been told. Alexios' imprisonment and torture at the hands of the Major Villain - Anubisa was glanced over without barely a few paragraphs. And while I liked that Alexios chose not to have his scars removed by the Goddess Diana (Grace is the final descendant of her bloodline), I wanted to know how he got those scars, how he got through the two years of torture without going completely mad, and how he remained a true warrior. Justice (previous book) wasn't under Anibusa's control for even a fraction of that time and yet he was pretty stark raving mad when he first broke free. I was disappointed for the potential I felt there was in this book and can only hope that the next is a better read, because once I start a series I'm a stubborn ass when it comes to finishing it. ;)Until next time,~Lisa I didn't find either Alexios or Grace particularly interesting. I also felt Grace's youth to be off-putting. I wish the author had written her as a more seasoned character. Might have made her more interesting. I also would have liked more background and info on the whole "descendant of Diana" thing. How exactly did Grace learn about her heritage? Did she spend years training with the bow or was the ability to never miss magically gifted to her? For something which was so critical to Grace's character in the course of the story, the background info was extremely sparse.
