Avenging Spider-Man: My Friends Can Beat Up Your Friends (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
With all the Superior Spider-Man I've been reading lately, the comedy of Peter Parker had me smiling tons while reading this book! Pete teams up with Red Hulk, Hawkeye, and Captain America over the course of 5 issues to battle baddies, tell jokes, and generally show us all why Spidey is awesome. The bonus for me in reading this was Joe Madureira art. I loved his runs on X-Men back in the 90's and was a Battle Chasers fan too. Where have you been Joe Mad?! Always loved your style and miss it terribly!High recommend for this quick read! Zeb Wells starts out as the writer for this companion Spider-Man series, which at its start showcased the wall crawler and some of his fellow Avengers. Wells has a good handle on characters, particularly how they relate to each other. It's the art in this set that can be grating. The first three issues have art by Joe Madureira, an artist who for some inexplicable reason seems to have a fan base. His style is messy and inconsistent. The Hawkeye issue features work by Greg Land, who has a reputation in the industry for drawing as if his primary inspiration is imagery from adult entertainment.
