Bad Kitty Vs Uncle Murray (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Ella got this book for Christmas and told me I should totally read it. It is the story of a very bad kitty who is babysat by Uncle Murray while his owners are away. Chaos ensues! The book has a lot of pictures and is almost written like a comic book - lots of dialogue and sound effects (Pow! Meow!). The story and writing aren't particularly clever or interesting, but what I did like was how the author interspersed the story with little interludes about cat behavior. For example - why loud noises make cats nervous and what different body language means in cats. I imagine this would be helpful/interesting to kids with cats in their homes. I think it made Ella really happy that I read it.**There is this random weird part at the end of the book where the author suddenly puts in a glossary of different types of phobias, and how Bad Kitty demonstrated some of them throughout the book. This came totally out of left field, and more like some public service announcement add-on then anything to actually do with the story. And do kids need to know about "pnigophobia" - the fear of being choked or smothered? Yikes! Bad Kitty's owners are off on a trip and Uncle Murray is in charge. Sadly, Uncle Murray's more of a dog person, so he's constantly startling Kitty with loud noises and sudden movements. But when the door is left open and a startled Kitty makes a break for it, Uncle Murray realizes that he might be in over his head.A very cute early chapter book that is funny. The illustrations have that zany quality that is the hallmark of the series. This will appeal to a lot of readers.
