Betty And Friends: My Life At The Zoo (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I loved this book. It was a light and easy read, with lots of very beautiful pictures. I love the fact that it's based on Betty White's personal experiences with animals and zoos. It can be informative, and there are lots of Ms. White's anecdotes about animals featured in this book. I admire Ms. White's work with zoos and animals, and how she loves and respect each and every one of them and that she finds it important to protect the endangered animals. I give this book 5 stars! How can you not love Betty White and fabulous pictures of animals? The book was short on words but filled with photos of animals in the variety of zoos Betty loves, including special animals that she forged a bont with over the years. Some are current residents, others were key individauls to restoration of their species whose legacy lives on with their offspring.Betty includes stories about many of these animals, some being a sentence long, others a couple pages, all told from her perspective. The warmth in the writing shows her true passion for animals and animal welfare, and while it may seem to be a conflict of interest for an animal lover to also be a zoo supporter, she addresses the issue right away. Certainly, I would love to hear more of Betty's stories about the animals she loves, but at the cost of the pictures would be a shame. Many of the photos were taken by the same photographer, and he clearly has a talent for capturing animals candidly. The book was grouped into themes such as animal families, sleepy creatures, etc. but they were tastefully done and didn't seem juvinile or random as some other largely photographic books I've read. There were a number of completely blank pages in the book, I suppose so that the pictures and the stories can go together, but some seemed quite unnecessary, and for a book I enjoyed as much as this one, using valuable space for nothing was a bit of a letdown.

What do You think about Betty And Friends: My Life At The Zoo (2011)?

Simple yet complex. Betty White's love of animals and zoos are shown in this photo journey.
