Between The Devil And Ian Eversea (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
The story clipped along, and I liked the characters pretty well. However, Ian Eversea is a lot like his brother Colin (from Pennyroyal Green #1), and the characters in general were somewhat predictable. I also found myself annoyed by how much the author emphasized the main character's virginity. He's super experienced, but she isn't. Very standard romance genre fare. Although it was cute that she kept modifying the list to match up to Ian, I the list gimmick itself a bit silly. Another fantastic read about the denizens of Pennyroyal Green, a small town in Sussex. This time, the story revolves around bad boy Ian Eversea and Miss Titania (Tansy) Danforth, an American heiress who has become the ward of the Duke of Falconbridge. The Duke has reason to hate Ian, as Ian seduced his former fiancee, but he tolerates him since Ian is his brother-in-law since the Duke married Ian's sister Genevieve. However, the Duke still does warn Ian away from Tansy, believing her to be an innocent young miss. And, it is the Duke's duty to find an eligible, TITLED gentleman for Tansy to marry.Tansy may be innocent, but she is also an outrageous flirt and is not happy unless all the men in town are eating out of her hand. She manages to captivated almost all of the men in Pennyroyal Green, including ones that are already spoken for. However, she is horrified to find out that she acts like a shy mouse around Ian because she finds him so captivating. This has never happened to her before and she wants to find out what makes Ian so interesting to her. As always in a Julie Anne Long book, the characters jump off the page as fully realized people, with flaws and internal emotional angst. I teared up at some points and laughed out loud at other points. I also very much enjoyed seeing the Duke of Falconbridge again as well as the other Everseas and populace of Pennyroyal Green. We also get to learn more about Olivia and her suitor Landsdowne (truly, I really can't wait for Olivia and Lyon's story - hope it is coming soon). This is a book I know I will be re-reading again.
