Out of the three I have read in the series, this wasn't my favorite, but I did still enjoy it. The mystery was fun to try and figure out, and I thought all of the fake names were pretty great. This actually reminded me a little of a Sebastian St. Cyr book, what with the traipsing all around London to figure stuff out. I think I am going to take a break from the series now, but I am still excited to read the next book! Since the Surrender is the third book in the Pennyroyal Green series and like the first one takes place entirely in London as it follows Chase Eversea. Chase has been sent to London to meet the new cleric for Pennyroyal Green as well as to leave everyone alone as his temper is causing trouble. In London, he meets again with Rosalind, the widow of the major he served under and respected during the war. Rosalind is searching for her sister has gone missing and she knows that Chase is ruthless, intelligent and efficient. The story takes place over the series of a few days as is common with the Pennyroyal Green books but there's a shared history of the characters that adds to their interactions. I found this a wonderful read as Rosalind and Chase relearned each other as well as dealing with their shared past and presents. The mystery is tight and could stand on its own and sheds a fascinating light on historical London. I would recommend this book to someone who wishes to read Long's books as it stands on its own well and shows her at her best with compelling characters, interesting mystery and a sense of place.
What do You think about Since The Surrender (2009)?
What I particularly like about it is the dialogue and the pacing of the story.
