Sigh I just don't get how so many lacklustre books are getting such high star ratings...It's not that I didn't appreciate the world building...I did truly it was just that this book was so messed up and not in a good way.1.i liked the plot, it was original for a change and definitely intrigued me to the point where I wanted to read book two2. I liked Annabelle...for the most part but then she was a selfish slutty cow whom jumped from man to man emotionally. I mean after reading all the way to the end of book two I'm still not sure who she's with...is it Cane or Tucker?! Because she's clearly fucking Tucker ten ways to Sunday but Cane still believes there's enough of a relationship to propose ?!3. Marcy and her husband...Tyrell, Trayvion...I don't know his name because it changes several times during both books.4. Tucker... Is he a creepy stalker ? Is he an adorable all american guy? Is he a lover or fighter? I just don't get it, him or his part in the story because he was seriously pointless.5. I'm angry that there had to be three different love interests in such a tiny series. The author certainly didn't have the writing chops to pull off such an emotional wreck that she was trying to convey and her heroine just ended up looking like an alcoholic slut who fucked Cane and wanted to fuck Hitch and is definitely fucking Tucker.6. Introducing murderous pixies but not finishing the fairy storyline completely. Here's an idea, don't intro a new species if the fairy story arc isn't finished with. 7. So Annabelle is planning on taking DeeDee and running for the hills when her foster time is up?! Forget about her obligations and relationships and ties she has to the community right?8. And Hitch just forgave his fiancée for lying to him and sending him to his death? He didn't forgie Annabelle for 'cheating' on him but he'd forgive Stephanie so easily? That doesn't ring true to the character the author has built up over two books.Would I recommend this book? Nope All my favorite themes. Dark, gritty, southern paranormal that takes place in Louisiana with a little post-apocalyptic thrown in for fun. Right up my alley. I did want to punch a few characters in the face at certain parts of the book but overall I really enjoyed it. Our heroine is a sassy science nerd who has seen better days. She has addiction issues but strives to better herself more and more throughout the book. I loved the southern setting. Anything with a swamp is great to me. And her potential male counterparts are all steaming hot but each in his own way. I honestly don't know who I'd pick when all is said and done. I really hope there's going to be a third book because book 2 ends with a lot unsaid.
2.5 stars - would have been three of not for all the loose threads left at the end.
