Decent read from the Amazon cheap shelf. Starts out pretty hokey. I almost gave up after the first few chapters but luckily I had nothing else to read at the moment. The main character gets more engaging and likable and some decent supporting characters are introduced. The world is interesting and I liked the idea of the different councils. The relationships stay pretty shallow but not in an irritating way. The one thing that really drove me crazy was the dialogue. The times that characters were supposed to be having witty back and forth or the main character is being clever are just atrocious. So inane. The fights the love interests have are so ridiculously worded. Horrible. Otherwise it's a good light read. I cared about what happened to the characters and liked the resolution. I was so enjoying this until I looked up the next ones in the series and was disappointed to see where it was headed.Kinda reminds me of the disappointment I felt with the True Blood series and why I stopped reading it.I guess I am a sucker for romance, and this series like the True Blood series puts that on the back seat... the far backseat I don't mind waiting, like with the Mercedes Thompson Series or The Kate Daniels series, but I expect pay off romance-wise. Maybe that's petty, but that is why I am giving this book only 3 stars.: (
To be honest.. I really wish I knew to read this before I read the High Demon Series Books.. :(
