Bloodrage (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

In this installment, Mack agrees to train with the mages with the promise that the mages will lift their status spell from Mrs. Alcoon.I was really disappointed in this one. It's slow and exceedingly nonsensical. Mack and Corrigan were on good terms when last we saw them in Bloodmagic. So when Corrigan surprises Mack at one of her anger management counseling sessions, and she snaps at him with more anger than usual, I was really confused. I just couldn't wrap my mind around why she's so mad at him. ALL. THE. TIME. It would have been different if I'd seen some sort of internal struggle with her feelings for him, but she really just acts as though he's the last male in the world she'd ever want to be with. She is sweet and kind to Alex, her new student friends, and even eventually Thomas, who tricked her into cutting all her hair off! But she doesn't have a single nice thing to say to Corrigan. Let's face it, she's a grade A bitch to him, and I don't know why he's still panting around after her. Why does every faction seem to know her secret except Corrigan; why is she still holding out?The fight scenes are poorly written and hard to follow. I found myself rolling my eyes when she was training the teen mages to fight, which reminds me of another peeve with this installment. Mack constantly talks about the teens as though they're so young, and she's so old. I guess I hadn't realized how old Mack truly was until this book. Her hot and cold behavior was fine in the first two books, because I thought I was dealing with a teen. It turns out she's just a bitchy immature young woman in her mid-twenties.I'm fond of the curse words usually, but when they start to lose their impact, you know they've been used too much. Changing "fuck" to "feck" for a different character doesn't make it a different word, the meaning is still the same, and they're still both overused.Things picked up again towards the end, which was this book's only saving grace. Mack does learn to reign in her temper...a bit. And we do finally get a glimpse of what she really is, although I wasn't entirely clear on what causes her shift. Is it anger? Can't be, because we've seen her anger before...on multiple occasions. Is it the deaths of two mildly close friends? Well, see I'm just not buying that, because she only just meets them in this book and she doesn't spend a whole lot of page time with them. Why wouldn't avenging the death of her father figure back in Bloodfire cause this? That was a much closer bond, IMO.As with the first two books, I downloaded the audio format. According to other reviewers, this series is chuck full of grammar issues, and I didn't want to be distracted by them. Plus, it's really easy to stain the kitchen cabinets and listen to these at the same time. :) 2,5 I think that most of this book wasent that exciting a read as the previous ones. The ending was all that saved it this book from a 1 star rating. This could have been put together in a much shorter e-novell and skipped alot of stuff that was just so very boring or simply writen in a better way. I can't quite put my finger on what made this diffrent from the rest, but it just didnt appeal to me as much. A few important characters where introduced however and that keept it interesting. However compared to the rest of this series I must say this was my least favorite and liked book of all 5 and the hardest to get through but it was allso an important book for the plot to make sence later on.

What do You think about Bloodrage (2000)?

3 1/2 stars I can't give it 4 because the dragging on of the 2 main H&H are getting tedious

I may have to give up on this series. Mack is just too immature for me.
