Bonded By Blood. Laurie London (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Almost marked this one as "did not finish". The first thing I would take issue with was excessive foul language. I was very put off by it and it did not help the story along. In fact, it hampered the story and it made the characters come off as juvenile and simple. The main characters Dominic Serrano and Mackenzie Foster-Shaw definitely had chemistry but, their romance felt way too rushed and this love that she had for him felt unreal. The Spanish words that were meant to make Dominic sound seductive and sexy made him feel like a cheesy stereotypical European Latin lover. The story wasn't really that focused, I figured out a major plot line in the very beginning. So once the revelation came it was no big deal. The peril that the main female character found herself in (she is had a rare type of blood called Sweetblood) was interesting enough but the story was not executed well. There was no suspense, excitement or urgency in the plot of the story. I felt if the author just focused on the seduction of the Sweetblood and her vampire pursuer; the story for me would have been better. This is what I take issue with on stories like the paranormal romance genre; the danger element can get tiresome. If the story is well-written and the characters are fully developed; it can work. I think that there could be surprising sweet stories out there with it just being about a vampire and his love interest. Some times the danger is a distraction from the story, but of course we never know what our vampire/hero is capable of unless we put him in a danger scenario. It's a conundrum; at least for me.This was a really quick read for me. I was surprised at how quickly I finished this book. So it was readable, because usually books that I am not into I have a hard time finishing it.I think most fans of paranormal romance/vampires will probably like this book. I see the potential for the series to be successful. The characters are decent and they can carry a storyline. This is just not a series for me. Dom is hurt and attacks Mackenzie while she is scouting in a cemetry for a movie, He is able at the last moment to pull away and not drain her dry, nurses her back to health, then wipes her memory clean..Mackenzie wakes to find she is missing a whole day, but puts it down to a headache.. well sort ofDom is a beautiful well meaning vamp, who takes being a guardian very sereously, both have issues and are not prepared for the overwhelming desire for each other..Laurie has written a beautiful story full of ainst, love, loyalty and love, I thoughly enjoyed it.
