Bread And Wine: A Love Letter To Life Around The Table With Recipes (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
I love this genre of book. Memoirs always make me think that I can be an author myself- someday. Each chapter is its own essay. It makes the book easy to read even if you can't dedicate hours to it at a time. And you can put it down and pick it up later without having to work hard to remember what already happened. This is the perfect book to read for a mom who keeps getting interrupted. That would be me.Shauna makes me want to spend more time in the kitchen. She makes me want to feed my family something that didn't come from a box or the frozen food section of the grocery store. She makes me want to have dinner parties and have deep friendships with "my people". That's what I love about her books. Some reviewers mention the fact that they can't relate to her life- the extensive travel and vacations to her lake home. That didn't occur to me. Her stories made me want to make my own life richer in whatever way our family can make that happen. I loved this book. It spoke to me in a dozen ways. Sometimes there are books I read where I feel like I've formed a deep connection to the author. This is one of those books and Shauna is one of those authors. If I ever met her, I think we'd be great friends. As such, I take her opinions seriously. Her recommendations on food and books are now elevated on my lists. Also, for me, a faithful library fan, this is a book worth owning.
