I was still seething at what he had done. I just couldn’t understand it—he had to know what was coming. He let me walk in there like it had been my idea. The whole “dangerous” thing—that had been bullshit. Just a way to get me to demand to go, a way to get me there when he needed me there all along. He was no better than Daniel or my father, and in that moment, I hated all three of them. I sat with my arms folded across my chest, staring out the window on the long drive home. At least he wasn’t making me drive this late—not that I would have been able to sleep anyway. I just wasn’t going to deal with this right now. I’d go home and figure it all out in the morning. Maybe I could think of someone who could help me out of this mess, because I sure as hell couldn’t think of a way out myself. “I didn’t know.” I turned to face him, wondering what the hell he was talking about. We had just spent the last hour in silence—he hadn’t even said a word to me when we left the restaurant.
